This course, a mandatory qualification of three units and 128 guided learning hours, is designed to equip you with the more advanced skills and knowledge than we cover in the Level 3 ITEC Diploma. You will gain key skills in the following areas:
Assessment and Treatment Planning: Learn how to conduct subjective and objective assessments of clients, including identifying injuries, understanding their causes, and creating effective treatment plans. This includes knowledge of anatomy, joint structures, and factors that influence injury recovery.
Treatment Modalities: Understand and apply different treatment options for injuries at various stages (acute, sub-acute, and chronic). You will learn the proper use of cryotherapy and thermotherapy.
Advanced Sports Massage Techniques: Master a variety of soft tissue techniques to prevent and manage injuries. You will learn how to adapt your approach to each client's needs, monitor their tissue response, and provide essential aftercare advice.
Anotomy and Physiology: You will also gain a deeper understanding of anatomy, physiology, and pathology.
Understand the anatomy and physiology of the major joints of the body
Foundational Anatomy You will gain a deep understanding of the anatomy and physiology of the major joints, including the ankle, knee, hip, shoulder, and spine. This includes learning to identify crucial bony structures, and soft tissue landmarks essential for pinpointing the source of a client's issue.
Understand the influences and effects of client information on treatment planning
Subjective Assessment Skills This section focuses on the art of client consultation. You will learn how to conduct a thorough subjective assessment, gathering vital information about a client’s history, lifestyle, and symptoms to form the basis of your diagnosis.
Understand the effects of anatomy, physiology and pathology on human function
Objective Assessment Techniques Moving into practical application, you will master a range of objective assessment techniques. This includes assessing joint end feels, identifying postural deviations, and performing specific tests to determine the nature and severity of an injury.
Understand the principles and practice of objective assessment techniques
Injury and Dysfunction Analysis The module delves into the pathophysiology of common injuries and the factors that influence recovery. You will learn to recognize pre-dispositions to injury and understand the underlying reasons for soft tissue dysfunction, allowing for a more targeted treatment approach.
Be able to conduct subjective and objective assessment
Treatment Planning and Strategy Finally, you will learn how to use all the information gathered from your assessments to create a detailed, evidence-based treatment plan. This ensures your therapeutic strategy is effective, safe, and tailored to the client's specific needs.
Once learners have achieved the VTCT Skills (ITEC) Level 4 Certificate in Sports Massage they may progress on to other VTCT Skills (ITEC) or equivalent qualifications at level 5 for example:
